Mercury Models

Mercury may not be a name generally associated with muscle cars, but they did manufacture a number of contenders, including the Cougar Eliminator Boss 302, the Cobra Jet 428 Ram-Air Eliminator, the Cyclone Spoiler II, and the Cyclone CJ. They also produced a modern-day revival of the classic muscle car in the Marauder (2003-04) which had a 302 horsepower 4.6 liter engine.

Introduced in 1967, the Cougar was Mercury's version of the Ford Mustang. The GT version came standard with the 390 big block (rated at 335 horsepower) and HD suspension and brakes. For 1968, the 427, rated at 390 hp, was optional, as was the 428 Cobra Jet rated at 335 hp. Ram Air was optional for 1969, and the Eliminator package debuted. The Eliminator came standard with a 351 Windsor four-barrel (290 hp), with a 390, 428CJ, Boss 302, or Boss 429 available. The Mercury Cougar was completely redesigned in 1971 as more of a personal luxury car than a performance car.
